This program was designed with the beginner in mind. Moving through these lessons will help to lay a foundation for your Awareness Through Movement® home practice. We'll clarify some of the fundamental aspects of human movement and dive into some guiding principles of practice.

How do these lessons work? The lessons are incredibly gentle. We don't go to the point of stretch or strain. Rather we utilize our awareness, sensations, and novel movement to engage the nervous system and elicit change. The general intention is to tap into a sense of ease and grace in your movement.

Over time, these explorations can bring about a major change in your habits of moving, thinking, sensing and feeling. As you refine your ability to engage with your awareness, imagination, and perception, you'll find new ways to move through life. For some, this means tapping into their ability to recover from physical and emotional stress. For others, it's improving the way that they move and function in daily activities. And yet for others, it's discovering how to breathe better or feel calmer and lighter.

As always, the lessons are not recipes for "correct" movement, they do not tell you how to breathe or walk, sit or stand. They teach you how to become your own best expert on what's appropriate and efficient for you and deepen your awareness. Over time, you'll develop your ability to consciously perceive how you move and how to quickly let go of excess effort & unnecessary tension. These skills and knowledge will allow you to develop new and effortless movements.

This portion of the membership is a step-by-step introduction to Awareness Through Movement®. The lessons build on one another so that you can safely deepen your experience over time. But this program is about more than movement. You'll also be introduced to the key concepts of learning to learn, and refine your ability to use movement as an access point for discovery.

ATTUNE TO AWARENESS

5-15 MINUTE EXPLORATIONS

Each Awareness Through Movement lesson is accompanied by three short Attune To Awareness Practices. These shorter practices are designed to deepen your learning experience and keep you moving throughout the day. The Attune To Awareness Practices are typically 5-15 minutes long. We try to offer at least one version for sitting at your desk and one that you can do in bed.

In this 90-minute virtual class, you'll be introduced to the core principles of Awareness Through Movement®. This introductory class will help to ensure that you get the most out of your membership. It's a powerful next step to moving well.

But more than that, you'll be joining in on a LIVE class. For those of you who don't have a practitioner in your area, this is a wonderful way to move with others.

    Buffy Owens

    Buffy Owens is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner® and Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach. Her journey with the Feldenkrais Method® and Meditation began in the early 1990's. During that same time, she was introduced to the idea of using food as medicine and the importance of Community Supported Agriculture.

    Today, Buffy has a steadfast passion for helping people to move beyond pain and into a life that fills them up — from the inside and out!

    Most of the people that she works with have been suffering from complex pain for so long, that the idea of getting back to living a life they love seems impossible. She helps them to gain the knowledge, skill, and awareness that's necessary to shift from a life of suffering to one of meaning and joy.
