Hi! I'm Sarah Ferreira. As an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Certified Health and Wellness Coach. I am dedicated to the art and science of cutting-edge nutritional care and to the joyful use of food to nourish and support resilience.
Nourishment takes many forms, one of which is the food that we choose. Through a strengths-based integrative nutrition approach, I help my clients to learn how to truly nourished themselves to develop a healthy relationship with food and to reclaim their nutritional wellbeing so that they can normalize digestive function and experience more energy and vitality in their lives.
WHAT MOVES ME:
I am humbled by and grateful for my work as a Registered Dietitian practicing through the lens of Integrative and Functional Nutrition, 'on the journey’ along with you.
Food-based nourishment is a source of information for our bodies and brains, impacting our digestive health, energy levels & mitochondrial function, central nervous system regulation and brain function, cardiovascular and metabolic health, immune system resilience, endocrine health, and the trajectory of health and disease.
A “whole food as medicine” approach underpins the resources that I’ve created here at A Space to Grow. I hold that there is no one ‘right’ way to nourish ourselves, but that we all have rich opportunities to choose the type of food-based information that makes the most sense for each of us. Together, we’ll explore the healing, nourishing foods available to us through culinary nutrition, mindfulness of the reasons that we eat, and self-awareness based choosing. You’ll find here a ‘buffet’ of options that you can choose from and experiment with as is supportive to you.
I envision a community where each one of you feels safe & supported to discover what optimal nourishment means for them in this season of life-for both food-based nourishment and non-food based nourishment. In other words: community-supported prompts for self-experimentation, self-awareness, mindfulness & culinary exploration.
I strive to embrace nourishment as a dynamic process, which changes from day-to-day and from season-to-season. Food-based nourishment can radically shift our biology and redefine our capacity for wellbeing, but the path to discovering and defining how that best works for you is yours.
My goal is to harness the power of whole foods integrative nutrition to help those struggling with complex health challenges and struggles with food and eating to bring peace, possibility & joy to eating.
My mission is to share opportunities for nourishment that emphasis resilience, not restriction.
I am blessed to share such powerful tools to create the possibility for my private clients and for the Space to Grow community. As we change the way that we eat and our bodies and brains respond, we gather new information about our capacity to be well. As we fuel our bodies and our brains strategically, we can create more metabolic and cognitive flexibility that create positive ripples in all areas of our lives. Changing the way that you nourish yourself can be life changing!
I'm a Registered Dietician who has completed extensive coursework in Nutrition and Human Disease, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Nutritional Biochemistry, Metabolism & Food Sciences. After a 1200 hour ACEND-accredited supervised practice program, I passed the national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and complete continuing professional education requirements to maintain registration. My formal education has given me a framework for evaluating research and sifting through the 'noise' and confusion that so often surrounds nutrition science.
Integrative and Functional Nutrition integrates a research-oriented, evidence-based, systematic & root cause based approach to nutritional care including clinical protocols, informed use of dietary supplements, therapeutic elimination diets, conventional and functional labs & mind-body practices. In addition to completing select coursework through the Institute for Functional Medicine, I have completed all requirements through the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy to earn the IFNCP credential.
I’ve completed Core Coach Training through Wellcoaches®, a high-impact and science-based training programs which focus on the psychology and mindset of change. My philosophy is that knowledge becomes most meaningful when we apply it to our own circumstances and journey: think of it as ‘embodied knowledge’. You are on your own journey, but that doesn’t mean that you need to go it alone. Group Nutrition coaching through a Space to Grow is designed to meet you where you are and to help you define next steps for your own personal journey. I learn from you, and we all learn from each other.
